Abbozzo Gallery is pleased to present A Few Miles Above, a group exhibition featuring artworks that approach landscapes, both physical and mental, through a metaphysical lens. The exhibition will introduce artists Nigel Scott, Fernando Loyola, and Madison Tyrell, as well as feature gallery artists Barbara Amos, Naoko Matsubara, David Wilstermann, and Delfina Gomez-Marestaing. Exploring works that confront, internalize, and sublimate landscapes within and without, this collection draws upon the unique interaction of visual perception and its power of influence over mental states of being, memory, and raw emotion. There is, in every artwork in this exhibition, a moment of subversion or disruption, and left is the artists’ translation of what they have seen or felt. The eye guides the mind, and the mind in turn, guides the hand.
Growing up in the lushness of western British Columbia, the artwork of Madison Tyrell investigates our surrounding landscape and its inextricable connection to all aspects of our existence, and although her work clearly features natural forms, the artwork reads as a sensory experience and vital.
When art inspires art.
Madison Tyrell drew inspiration from Aldous Alma’s music video, “Fight or Flight”, in the creation of her original oil painting COMMUNION. Aldous Alma will bring the work’s inspiration full circle by performing a live set in front of COMMUNION. The evening promises a resonant exchange between sound and image, where music becomes painterly, and painting becomes harmonic.
